Duleek Knot

This symbol is found in many old druid and pre-Christian patterns. The circle which encompasses the pattern is a symbol for completeness and also represents the sun, which was an object of worship. The inner pattern consists of four triquetras. Each triquetra represents the forces of nature: earth, air and water as interpreted through each of the four seasons. Named after the pattern found on the south cross at Duleek, Co. Meath. The inner pattern can also be seen as a cross, thus symbolizing the integration of Christian and druid beliefs. Long known as the Protection Knot, it consists of simple triquetras cleverly interlocked to make a beautiful and symmetric piece representing unity and continuous strength.
