The beautiful designs of Welsh artist Jen Delyth may be many people's introduction to the mysteries of Celtic Art. Hugely popular, they can be found in gift shops worldwide as tshirts, jewelry, and throw rugs. With adaptation they make splendid tattoos.
I became aware of her work when clients began to bring in her stickers and prints, asking for them as tattoos. Many of the patterns, like her trademark Tree of Life, have such an iconic resonance that they seem instantly familiar. They are the visual equivalent of a folk song, drawing from us some connection with a mythic marvelous past. Although her work is original and of our time, many have erroneously come to believe they are of ancient origin, so strongly do they resonate with the timeless quality we associate with our Celtic forbears.
I offer here a selection that I have changed slightly and installed on clients. The adaptations are done to make the best possible tattoo out of a design, in a way I believe preserves the integrity of the original. They are sold here with her permission.
